Prescot Hockey Ladies create history
The Prescot ladies hockey team pulled of an amazing Treble this season by winning two Cup Finals this weekend to go with their Division One Championship and promotion.
Saturday: Greater Manchester Division One Cup Final
Urmston Ladies 0 Prescot Ladies 0 (Prescot win 3-1 penalty flicks)
Prescot had already beaten Urmston three times this season but each game had been close as the Manchester side had finished third behind Prescot in the League. The final was a cagey affair with both sides’ defence on top throughout the game. With no real clear cut chances in the seventy minutes it became a penalty flick contest to decide the Cup. Prescot scored their first two whilst in goal Foy pulled off three fine saves to give Prescot the win and clinch the Division one League and Cup double.
Sunday: Greater Manchester All Division Cup Final
Didsbury Northern 2 Prescot Ladies 2 (Prescot win 5-4 on penalty flicks)
Knowing Prescot were already Division One League and Cup winners the ladies had less than 24 hours to recover and play a much more powerful Didsbury ladies team on their home pitch in the All Division Cup Final. Didsbury started the brighter and took the lead much to the pleasure of their home and very vocal support. Soon after Prescot found themselves two nil down and the hopes of a ‘treble’ were fading fast. However, a stirring team talk from coach Mark Heaps saw Prescot put in a huge shift for the final thirty five minutes of the season. Smith pulled a goal back midway through the second half and Prescot poured forward to strike a deserved equaliser in the final five minutes. Two two at full time meant more dreaded penalty flicks. Didsbury and Prescot matched each other to four each before Foy pulled out a superb save to give team captain Mel Heaps the opportunity to score the decisive penalty and win the All Division Cup and the historic Treble. No team has ever won all three trophies in the same season!
These final two cup wins cap a fantastic season for Prescot Hockey Club with both ladies and men’s teams promoted to the North Pennine League for the first time.

Prescot Elizabethan Fayre – Saturday 4th May
Enjoy a day of heritage entertainment at Prescot’s Elizabethan Fayre
Prescot’s popular Elizabethan Fayre will return on Saturday 4 May and promises to be a great family day out with lots of new heritage attractions this year.
Prescot has a unique history and heritage as it was the only place in England (outside of London) to have an indoor playhouse in Elizabethan times, and this wonderful cultural heritage will be celebrated at the fayre.
A traditional parade will launch the festivities, at 11am, as the town commemorates its special history with medieval music, dance, arts and crafts in a recreation of its famous Tudor fayres.
Visitors will be able to try their hand at many free traditional crafts including willow making and friendship bracelets using traditional twist cord and braid weaving.
Fayre-goers can also try their hand at wood turning and traditional pinch pot making. Children are welcome to take part in a free craft activity and make a ‘crown’ or ‘shield’ courtesy of Friends of Eaton Street Park.
There will be demonstrations of traditional greenwood crafts including how to use a shave horse and draw knife and bodging on a pole lathe where visitors can have a go at helping to turn a spindle.
Mucky Mountains Morris dancers will perform at different times during the day and spectators will have the chance to try out this traditional dance with some simple to follow steps from the troupe.
Look out too for hilarious slapstick comedy performances from Imaginarium Youth Theatre’s masked players throughout the day.
Birds of prey demonstrations and other family favourites like the circus skills workshops, exotic animals and native species for visitors to handle and face painting will be back again this year.
There will also be heritage walks taking place around Prescot at 12 noon and 2pm (meet at Prescot Parish Church) with a halfway stop at the Bard for refreshments
New sponsors Armitage Construction, who are developing the Marketplace area in Prescot, will be hosting a traditional heritage trade skills stall featuring stonemasonry and joinery.
Thanks to Prescot Town Council, Kier Construction, Ray’s bakers, Armitage Construction and The Deanes House pub for the different elements of the fayre they have sponsored.
The Fayre will take place in and around Prescot Town Centre, Eccleston Street and Prescot Parish Church on Church Street from 11am to 4pm with free admission.
The Producers’ Market and Arts, Crafts and Gift Fair will take place on the same day.
If you’d like to get involved in the Elizabethan Fayre please call Knowsley Culture Development and Events Service on 0151 443 5353 or email carla.simkin@knowsley.gov.uk

Prescot Community Recognition Awards 2019
Community Recognition Awards
Prescot has a rich tradition as a Town with a strong community, sometimes the efforts of particular individuals and groups stand out as being above and beyond that of a usual citizen. These groups and individuals are not always aware of the positive impact they can have, on both individuals and the wider community, and can go largely unsung for their actions.
In order to recognise these individuals and the positive contribution they make to the lives of others, the Town Council operate the Prescot Community Recognition Awards, if you would like to make a nomination please use the form below. Closing date for nominations is 30th April 2019.
Red Box Project – Prescot & Knowsley
Karl and Clare from The Red Box Project – Prescot & Knowsley came along to the Town Council meeting last night (26/03/19) and provided Prescot Town Councillors with a presentation on what the project is, how it works, how they set it up and what they have achieved so far.
The work they have done to get the project up and running starting initially in Prescot is amazing and they have now been successful in rolling out the red boxes into 53 out of 59 schools in the whole of Knowsley. What a great achievement this is and all through voluntary work and support from local businesses and the community.
For those of you who don’t know about the project please have a look at the information provided on the attached photographs and give the red box project a like/follow on Facebook/Twitter to get regular updates.
If you want to support them please get in touch and there are donation points right across the borough including here at Prescot Town Hall.
