Knowsley Apprentice – recruiting now!
If you’re leaving school or college this summer and thinking about your next step – think about becoming a Knowsley Apprentice.
The team is now recruiting for apprentices to start work in September.
If you’re keen to get started in the world of work, an apprenticeship will give you the real work experience you need to get the edge in the job market. You will gain a recognised qualification and develop professional skills all while earning a good salary.
You don’t need experience, or lots of qualifications. If you have plenty of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, Knowsley Apprentice might be for you.
With apprenticeships in construction, engineering, housing and marketing, there’s something for everyone.
Prescot Town Council are proud to have recruited its current Administration Officer through the Knowsley Apprentice Scheme, so are well placed to recommend the service to both seeking and offering employment. The Town Council chose to use the Knowsley Apprentice Scheme when recruiting to ensure it had the ability to provide an employment opportunity at a local level.

Prescot Festival Ushers in New Generation of Talent
The Prescot Festival will showcase young, rising musical and artistic talent in June this year.
Primary and secondary school children from across the borough of Knowsley will once again perform live in pursuit of the title of Young Instrumentalist of Prescot during this year’s 10-day programme.
Sonny Fielding, a former St Edmund Arrowsmith student from Whiston, wowed judges three times to take the title—and this year he’s upping his game and appearing at the Royal Albert Hall for the opening night of the BBC Proms.
He’ll be singing as part of the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Chorus, also known as the BBC Proms Youth Choir.
The young tenor, now 18, has been studying at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music alongside his A-levels at Cronton College, and has received a scholarship to study singing at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in September.
“It was a great encouragement to be recognised for my musical talent through the Prescot Festival,” said Sonny.
“To be awarded the title of Young Instrumentalist three times has really spurred me on to be the musician I am today.”
Festival Artistic Director Dr Robert Howard added: “Sonny has always shown a real joy and expressiveness in his musicianship, and it’s a pleasure to see him go on to even greater things.”
Local primary school pupils will also get their chance to shine at this year’s festival, with a Schools’ Poetry Showcase at St Mary & St Paul’s School.
The festival opens on Friday 16 June with Leyland Band—not only Lancashire’s number one-ranking brass band, but also among its most youthful, featuring a plethora of young musicians.
Other highlights of the festival, which ends on Sunday 25 June, include organist Ian Tracey, jazz quintet the Chilled Lemons and Phoenix Concert Orchestra.
Tickets are on sale at Poco Coffee (30 Eccleston Street, Prescot, L34 5QJ) and online at www.prescotfestival.co.uk.
Prescot Festival Preparing for Grand Finale
Almost 500 people came through the oak doors of Prescot’s Jacobean parish church for the opening weekend of the town’s annual festival.
Lancashire’s number-one ranking brass band, Leyland Band, initiated the proceedings on Friday night, receiving a standing ovation after their encore of Strauss’s Radetzky March.
On Saturday, a magnificent performance by the Prescot Festival Chorus was followed by the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Girl Choristers, in a stunning festival debut.
The internationally renowned organist Professor Dr Ian Tracey rounded off the weekend’s concerts on Sunday afternoon. Now Organist to the City of Liverpool, Organist Titulaire of Liverpool Cathedral, and Chorusmaster to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir, Ian began his musical career at St Mary’s Prescot over four decades ago.
Elsewhere in the town, crowds flocked to the Prescot Carnival to enjoy funfair rides and live entertainment in blazing sunshine and soaring temperatures.
The programme continues throughout the week with jazz, acoustic music and film before a finale weekend featuring songs from the shows with Phoenix Concert Orchestra, traditional choral evensong with Prescot Parish Church Choir, and a Proms-style closing concert with the Band of the Yorkshire Regiment.
“Once again we’ve been overwhelmed by the sheer quality of musical skill and talent,” said Artistic Director Dr Robert Howard, “and it only heightens our eager anticipation of the closing weekend.”
