As a volunteer-led community group our Pensioners Dinner Club in Prescot feeds 40 older people every week.
We are a volunteer led community group running a pensioners dinner club in Prescot. We feed 40 older people a hot meal, dessert and tea and coffee every Wednesday. We have had to start to turn people away as our cooker is broken, and too small to feed many more. It was never our intention to have to turn people away, and we would like to grow and expand our group to impact more lives. Many of our attendees would otherwise be socially isolated, and our dinner club is the only time they leave the house. We do not have the funds to replace the cooker ourselves. Attendees pay £2 per week, and also buy bingo and raffle tickets. This money subsidises the meals, and trips out that we do 4/5 times a year. Saving for a new cooker would take us a long time, and would mean that we can no longer subsidise trips, that are too expensive for our residents at full cost.
